Setback for ‘Aang: The Last Airbender’: New 2026 Release Date Announced

Fans of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” need to wait a bit longer to catch up with Aang and his friends. The release of “Aang: The Last Airbender” has been pushed back to January 20, 2026. Initially, the movie was set to premiere on October 10, 2025. This news comes alongside a minor delay for another Paramount animation, “Transformers One,” which is now set to debut on September 20.

The new “Aang” movie will feature Eric Nam as the voice of Aang, with Dave Bautista voicing the villain. This film marks the first movie project from Avatar Studios, a new division at Paramount aimed at developing the “Avatar” franchise further.

Lauren Montgomery, who directed the original series, will direct the movie, joined by William Mata. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the original creators, are back as executive producers. They previously departed from a Netflix adaptation over creative differences but continue their involvement in this project.

Paramount’s Avatar Studios is not only focused on “Aang: The Last Airbender” but is also developing at least two other big-screen Avatar stories. While these projects don’t have release dates yet, the delay of the “Aang” movie could impact their schedules. The original series had also inspired a highly successful live-action version on Netflix.
